Well, it has been way too long since I’ve posted! Since my last update, I got a new job (!!), enjoyed a great off season, focused a lot on my running form, did tons of strength training, and enjoyed another great session of the DC Tri Club Off Season Spin Program. Plus about a million other things.
This year’s schedule has thrown me a few curveballs – I have a ton of great things on the calendar, but they’re not meshing very well with what I had in mind for a race plan. So, here’s what I know so far when it comes to triathlon in 2018:
- I really want to do two 70.3s. Right now I’m signed up for the Kinetic Half on May 12 in Lake Anna, VA – less than two months away! As for a second one…that’s still up in the air and might not happen, which I am slowly coming to terms with.
- There’s a few other potential races on the docket. Thinking some of the Rev3 Northern Virginia sprints will work well (and staying local doesn’t hurt either). Plus, I really want to do another local time trial this year.
- I joined the Skratch Labs ambassador team! I am a huge fan of the Skratch Recovery Drink Mix (especially chocolate flavor) and was thrilled when I got accepted to join the team.
- I’m still on Team SOAS Racing. I’ve tried a lot of gear and this is still my favorite. Our ambassador kits should arrive soon – cannot wait. There’s also an awesome contingent of DC-area team members, all of whom are amazing!
- I am working my way through The Endurance Training Diet & Cookbook. Only 7 recipes in, but a big fan so far! Stay tuned for a deeper dive.
Meanwhile, Eugene is now on the QT2 Systems Elite Team and debating between Ironman Maryland an Ironman Chattanooga after a super successful 140.6 debut last October in Louisville! He’s still serving as my coach/biggest cheerleader. He’ll also toe the line at the Kinetic Half in May, and is doing Eagleman 70.3 in June. Can’t wait to cheer him on!
That more or less brings you up to speed on what’s new! Here’s what my training schedule has looked like as of late:
- Monday: Masters swimming (60 minutes) + personal training session (30 minutes) – free through work [so crazy!]
- Tuesday: Run (about an hour)
- Wednesday: Teach at Wired Cycling (45 minutes) + swim (60 minutes)
- Thursday: Track workout (about an hour)
- Friday: Masters swimming (60 minutes) + personal training session (30 minutes)
- Saturday: Long ride (2-3 hours) + Brick run (20ish minutes)
- Sunday: Run (1.5ish hours) + swim (60 minutes)
Lots of ramping up to come over the next 6 weeks or so leading up to my second 70.3 – can’t wait!
